Summary

The Department of Defense is seeking proposals to develop a nanophotonic-enabled spatial light modulator array that can operate at speeds greater than 1 Gbps, far faster than current liquid‑crystal or MEMS devices. The effort targets high‑speed adaptive optics for applications such as LiDAR, free‑space laser communications, and quantum sensing, with prototypes to be demonstrated at an Air Force Research Laboratory facility.
